Paper 1
ELPACst Paper 1 (Listening Comprehension) has separate versions for TWR and ENR. Six TWR versions (AT, BT, CT, DT, ET and FT) and six ENR versions (AE, BE, CE, DE, EE and FE) were trialled and analysed in 2009.
Note: ENR here comprises APS and ACS training.
All students were requested to complete a bio data and self assessment form (prior to the first test version) and a feedback form at the end of each test version. Test administrators were asked to complete a short report.
All data were collated and thus new, updated test versions were prepared. Some items were discarded, some slightly modified. All changes made were re-trialled in summer and autumn 2009. Standard setting was carried out on parts of versions AT, AE, BT, BE CE, CT, DE and DT. The final test versions construction began in November 2009 and every effort was being made to ensure that all versions are parallel. The test developers have collated all information from trialling analyses and standard setting exercises and selected items that performed well. The final test versions have beeen constructed according to the following criteria:
- item difficulty
- content
- length of individual snippets
- specific language functions assigned to test items.
Parallel test versions are being produced taking into consideration all of the above listed criteria.
New versions for trialling are being prepared on an on-going basis.
Trialling and test construction follows the same principles as in the ELPAC test. More information is provided on www.elpac.info
Paper 2
ELPACst Paper 2 (Oral Interaction) has separate versions for TWR, APS and ACS student controllers.
Paper 2 has two tasks. At least three versions of Task 1 (separate scenarios for TWR, APS and ACS students) and nine versions of Task 2 (generic) were pilot tested during the team development meetings and trialled with student controllers during the course of 2009.
All these versions were analysed, updated and re-trialled before being released for live testing at the end of 2009.
New versions for trialling are being prepared on an on-going basis.
Trialling and test construction follows the same principles as in the ELPAC test. More information is provided on www.elpac.info
